Rachel Meli

“I am passionate about designing and delivering high quality research-led CPD, with a particular interest in developing reading within schools and English as a core area of curriculum. I want to support and inspire teachers to design a curriculum that enables all children to thrive and be at their best.”

Rachel has worked as T&L Lead and Associate Headteacher with Transform since 2016 and brings extensive experience prior to this as an English specialist. She has over 11 years experience, with 9 years in leadership roles. This experience spans Key Stage 2, in particular Year 6, having taught in large multicultural primary schools in London and Nottingham. Her leadership roles have included, Subject Leadership, Teaching and Learning Lead and member of SLT.

She has been a city-wide writing moderator, Accredited SLE (English), an Olevi Outstanding Facilitator, Challenge Partners Reviewer, Member of the UKLA (UK Literacy Association) and Accredited Specialist Dyslexia Teacher.

As a member of the Transform School Improvement team she has developed Trust-wide writing standards for Years 1-6, she used the FED model to co-create a new

‘Future’ of English Development across the whole Trust. She has led and contributed to the SSIF Reading Specialist programme, Year 6 Network, NQT, NQT+ programmes and contributes to whole Trust Development Days for Headteachers and INSET provision.

Rachel is a regular speaker at TeachMeet East Midlands, sharing experience in Teaching and Learning and has worked directly with schools to support them in analysing data and developing teaching practices in Year 6 across the Trust and Teaching School Alliance. She has collaborated with the University of Nottingham to develop Reading practice across the East Midlands, attending National training events and liaising with experts. Rachel’s depth of knowledge, expertise and approachable style make her a popular choice as speaker for INSET and whole-school development projects.
