LEADERSHIP EXPERT

Heather Tarrant

"Taking a whole-school approach to leadership has created a culture where leaders at all levels feel empowered to fully embrace their roles, resulting in them inspiring their teams to take more risks and create greater opportunities for our children. It has been exciting to see all of our staff flourish as a result. I am now committed to helping other schools create an environment in which creativity and innovation are the norm. Sharing learning and modelling the application of powerful leadership concepts is a natural progression for me as a leader within education."

Heather Tarrant is Headteacher at Brocklewood Primary School, she successfully led the school on a journey from inadequate to good in less than 4 years, garnering praise for the leadership of the school in the process.

She is also the Partnership Lead for Transform Trust in Derby and plays a pro-active role in facilitating leadership development across our member schools in this area. She is a regular speaker at Transform Leadership Days, has facilitated NPQSL focus days, leadership development days for schools in SEN, Reading provision and EYFS as well as being Chair of her local Education Improvement Partnership.

Heather has spent the bulk of her 17 years Leadership career working in schools in areas experiencing high levels of deprivation, addressing the unique challenges these areas present. She holds a Masters in Education, PGCE and NPQH.

Heather is adept at approaching leadership development with great clarity, particularly in relation to breaking a process into a meaningful and relevant sequence of interventions that add tremendous value, bringing positive impact. This is evident in how she applied FED across her whole school leadership team, in a structured programme for the whole of the school year. The outcomes have been powerful for both the staff and children.

Her insightful and creative skills add depth to the work she does with other schools. She is generous in her willingness to share her learning and experience and always brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding to collaborative projects.

During her spare time she is a keen sports woman and long distance runner, and proud owner of a London Marathon finishers medal.
