LEADERSHIP EXPERT

Amanda Dawson

“Co-creating a shared, ambitious future that is centred around what the whole school community deeply cares about depends on developing a shared way of working, and a common language of leadership throughout. My personal mission is to work in areas of high deprivation, which are culturally diverse, and create opportunities that 'smash the glass ceiling' that society puts into place for them.”

Amanda Dawson is headteacher at Mellers Primary School, and Executive Headteacher at Nottingham Nursery School and Training Centre. She has successfully led the school on a journey from requiring improvement to good, and the school’s most recent inspection judged it to have elements of outstanding; the school is awaiting re-inspection for outstanding.

Amanda's teaching and leadership career has spanned over 20 years, it has been exclusively devoted to working in Nottingham City Schools in areas that are culturally diverse, with high levels of deprivation; she is committed to addressing the unique challenges that this presents.

Amanda provides insightful leadership support to a number of schools within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, is a regular speaker at FED events, is a member of the GNET MAT board and the Nottingham Music Hub board of trustees. She is a History graduate of the University of Nottingham (completing her PGCE at Nottingham Trent University) and National Leader of Education.

Leadership Applied proved to be the single most transformational experience for Amanda, her leadership team and whole school. They immersed themselves in a year-long programme to empower staff at all levels as leaders, the results were powerful for all.

Amanda's naturally engaging style is both inspiring and engaging, she brings an infectious energy to her leadership development work and is tireless in her quest to develop teachers and leaders in education so that all children benefit from the very best educational opportunities. She brings a wealth of experience and a broad understanding of the wider societal factors that influence the education landscape and understands the challenges children and young people from diverse backgrounds face in realising their potential.
